March of Dimes strives for all women to attain optimal health in all phases of life, including healthy birth outcomes. We support prioritizing workplace policies, such as paid family leave, adequate breaks, and pumping at work. Family-friendly workplace policies have been shown to increase the amount of time a mom continues to breastfeed her baby, to decrease infant hospitalization in the first year of life with respiratory illness, and to improve maternal mental health.
To learn more about pregnant workers fairness, your rights, and state specific laws, visit A Better Balance.
To help women and their families plan their pregnancy and postpartum period with their employer, we have developed Maternity Workplace Plan. This one-page tool can be used by women and their partners to create a plan with their employer and share, as appropriate with their manager. Download the Maternity Workplace Plan below to get started.
Employers have a responsibility to support pregnant and postpartum women and their partners. By implementing the Maternity Workplace Plan with your employees, patients, members, and/or clients, you'll be providing an additional supportive measure during this life-changing time and allowing all families to get the best possible start.
Take the pledge and join other organizations in supporting women and their families in the workplace during their pregnancy and postpartum period.
